Bespoke WordPress Development

Bespoke development

When an off-the-shelf plugin won’t do

Most websites can be built from a good theme and a handful of well-chosen plugins. Then there’s the one thing your business does differently. A quote calculator that follows your pricing rules. A portal where clients log in. Enquiries that should land in your CRM without anyone copying them across.

We build custom WordPress plugins, integrations and interactive components that sit inside a normal site your team can still edit. It’s the technical end of our website design and development work.

The kind of things we build

Client and member portals

Logins, dashboards and content of their own, inside your WordPress site.

CRM and system integrations

Website forms that send enquiries straight into a CRM or job management system.

Platform syncing

Products or customers kept in step between WordPress and other platforms.

Calculators and quote forms

Multi-step estimators that follow your own pricing rules.

Interactive maps

Data-driven maps and components, built faster with the help of AI tools and checked before launch.

QR-code logbooks

Equipment and servicing records that open from a code on the machine.

A few of these started life as one client’s problem and have since grown into products in their own right. We’re happy to talk through similar work on a call.

How a bespoke project runs

1

Scope it properly

A short spec covering who uses it, what goes in, what comes out and what should happen when something fails. You sign it off before any code gets written.

2

Build it in stages

We build the core first and get it in front of you early. A rough working version tells you more than any document.

3

Test with real data

Forms get filled in with the awkward entries real people make. Integrations get tested carefully before launch.

4

Keep it maintainable

Custom code lives in its own plugin, separate from the theme, so a theme update won’t wipe it out. It’s documented, so another developer could pick it up.

Our approach

Off the shelf first, custom second

Custom code costs more to build and more to look after, so we only reach for it when it earns its place. The first question on any bespoke job is whether an existing plugin, or a small tweak to one, already does what you need.

Where it doesn’t, building inside WordPress keeps things simple. Your team logs in to the same place, edits content in the same editor, and the custom part does its job quietly in the background. No separate system to learn, and no second login to forget.

Some of our best work has come from businesses with a clunky process they’d put up with for years. Enquiries retyped from email into a CRM. Paper service sheets. Prices worked out on a spreadsheet and copied into quotes by hand. That kind of problem is usually cheaper to fix than people expect.

When we do build something custom, we keep it as small as it can be. A tidy plugin that does one job well is easier to test, cheaper to change and less likely to break when everything around it updates.

Cost and timescales

Bespoke work is quoted from an estimate of the hours, at £75 an hour plus VAT. A single custom component on an existing site might take a day or two. A full client portal is a much bigger job. The spec stage gives you a clear estimate before you commit.

Small jobs can often be added to an existing care plan or bundled into a wider website project to keep costs down.

FAQs

Common questions

Something we haven’t covered? Ask us on a call.

Usually, yes. Most CRMs and job management systems have an API, and form plugins such as Gravity Forms can be extended to send entries straight across. We check what your system supports before we quote.

APIs do change. That’s one reason we’d suggest a care plan alongside any integration, so someone’s checking it still works after updates.

Not always, but it usually makes sense. Your team keeps one login and one familiar editor. See why we build on WordPress.

Not always. Sometimes there’s a plugin that already does the job, and we’ll tell you if there is.

Talk to us about this at the spec stage and we’ll agree it in writing before work starts.

Usually. We’ll review the code first and tell you whether it’s worth fixing or cheaper to rebuild.

Our focus is web. Many things people want an app for can be done as a well-built web tool that works on a phone, without app store fees.

Book A Call

No pitch. No pressure.

We don’t do discovery calls designed to wear you down until you sign something. This is a straightforward conversation between two businesses. We ask the right questions, listen properly and tell you honestly whether we’re the right fit.

If we are, you’ll go away knowing exactly what a partnership with TWA looks like and, more importantly, how it can benefit your business. If we’re not, we’ll tell you that too.

We’d rather turn down the wrong work than take on a client we can’t genuinely help scale.
